Paloma

chest of drawers

Paloma chest has four drawers with two rosacea-shaped handles in both ends and a high-relief feature right in the middle. Its frontal feet, which are slightly curved and contrast with the rectilinear silhouette of this piece, are adorned with gold decorative hardware. In the upper part of this bedroom antique chest, you can find floral hardware, as a reminder of its feminine and gracious nature.

As a product of Portuguese Neoclassicism, Paloma chest of drawers presents the influence of French (Louis XVI) and English styles on furniture. A new found and more delicate style (D. Maria) emerged in Portugal in the last quarter of the XVIII century, giving voice to an eclectic design which aligns a serious clean-cut shape with ornamented hardware and strong frontal features.
